Deadly Allies : Canada’s Secret War, 1937-1947 by John Bryden

This is about a book I just read called Deadly Allies : Canada’s Secret War, 1937-1947 by John Bryden, and it was written in 1989.

This book is about Canada’s secret war from 1937 to 1947, but it also kind of extrapolates (I think that’s the right word) up to 1989 a bit.

When I was talking to the librarian about not liking bees, cause I don’t like bees and I thought it would be a good idea to reduce bees, she got me this book to read to learn how to reduce the bees.

And this books talks about what Canada was up to like on:

Canada did not have the bomb, but it was a world leader in bacteriological warfare and very knowledgeable in chemical warfare. [1]

They [, Emlyn Llewelyn Davies and Otto Maass,] had built in Canada an impressive chemical and biological warfare establishment, and for the foreseeable future it was there to stay. [2]

The First Global Revolution by Alexander King and Bertrand Schneider

I just read The First Global Revolution by Alexander King and Bertrand Schneider.

On the back of the book it talks about The Club of Rome:

Alexander King, one of Britain’s most respected scientists, is a founding member of the Club of Rome, which includes among its one hundred members many public figures, business and industrial leaders, scientists, and heads of state. Bertrand Schneider, the Club’s secretary-general, is a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science. [1]

The Search For A New Beginning by Mikhail Gorbachev

This is on a book I just finished reading; The Search For A New Beginning : Developing a New Civilization by Mikhail Gorbachev.

I asked the librarian for a short book and she found me this one, which was pretty good, cause it’s only about 81 pages. The font is big with lots of white space so it only took me about an hour to read.

I remember the name Mikhail Gorbachev cause they had him as a character on one of The Simpsons episodes. He has that gross thing on his head. I’m not sure if it’s skin cancer, or if he cut his head when he was shaving it, or if it’s a birth mark. It’s pretty gross, but that’s how I remember the guy.

I guess I will talk about the book now.

This book is about greening stuff. One of his chapters, IV, is titled “The Greening of Politics”, so that kind of tells you what it is about.

On pages 9 and 10 he talks about some cool stuff:

I believe that a new structure of international relations, which I here propose, combined with the absolute superiority of democratic nations in sophisticated conventional arms, provide guarantees that are quite sufficient for genuine national security in the new world order. [1]

The Anglo-American Establishment by Carroll Quigley

This is about a book I just finished reading called The Anglo-American Establishment : from Rhodes to Cliveden by Carroll Quigley. This book was published by Books in Focus in 1981.

Here are a few quotes from the book to start out:

It is said that the road to perdition is paved with good intentions. The road to the Indian tragedy of 1947-1948 was also paved with good intentions, and those paving blocks were manufactured and laid down by the Milner Group. The same good intentions contributed largely to the dissolution of the British Empire, the race wars of South Africa, and the unleashing of the horrors of 1939-1945 on the world. [pp. 224-225]

ANY EFFORT to write an account of the influence exercised by the Milner Group in foreign affairs in the period between the two World Wars would require a complete rewriting of the history of that period. [p. 227]

New Books And Map

This is on some new books I got and a map I got.

I went to the library today, cause yesterday I went there to get another book and the librarian wasn’t there cause it was her day off, so I went back today and she was there cause it wasn’t her day off.

She recommended that I read another book by the dude Carroll Quigley. Carroll is a dude even though he has a girls name. The book is called The Anglo-American Establishment.

I thought the book was going to be as big as his other book, but it’s only 354 pages if you count the index. The copyright is 1981.

I also asked her, cause I want to learn words and the world, what she would recommend. She recommended that I get a dictionary and a map.

I went to the bookstore and bought The American Heritage Dictionary, Fourth Edition. I had a gift card for the mall so it was only like $20.

I also picked up a map. It was $7. It’s a paper map of the world and it’s 50 inches by 32 inches.

So I’m going to start learning about words and the world, but not right now.
